When you want to give your cat a snack or treat outside her normal feeding regime, you should always check first to find out if it is safe and healthy for your cat. Here are some tips on healthy snacks for your cat.
Let’s start with a list of things that are not okay for your cat. Things that can be harmful for a cat to consume include milk and other dairy products, chocolate, other pet food such as dog food, bones, onions and garlic, grapes and raisins, alcohol, caffeine, foods with Xylitol, liver, raw meat or raw eggs.
So, now that you know what you should not give your cat for a treat, what can you give her?
First, always start with a nutritionally balanced cat food such as from Hills Pets. Hills Pets provides food for kittens, adult cats, and mature cats.
Once you know your cat is getting the proper daily nutrition she needs for good health, then you can start thinking about the occasional treats.
You may be surprised that some cats like vegetables. Occasionally you may see your cat nibbling at a piece of grass outside. This is usually an indication that they need more fibre in their det. You can feed your cat things like cooked broccoli, green beans, and asparagus.
Fish is also a good treat for your cat. But talk to your vet about what kinds are best, and how often it’s okay to feed it to you cat.
Cooked chicken and cooked rice are also okay to feed your cat, as are cooked eggs. Raw eggs are best avoided as they can contain salmonella.
